# Rate limits

> Understand the per-key request limit and response headers.

API-key requests are limited to **120 requests per 60 seconds per API key**.

CollabOS sends rate-limit information in response headers:

| Header | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `RateLimit-Limit` | Maximum requests allowed in the current window |
| `RateLimit-Remaining` | Requests remaining in the current window |
| `RateLimit-Reset` | Seconds until the current window resets |
| `Retry-After` | Sent when a request is rate-limited; wait this many seconds before retrying |

When the limit is exceeded, the API returns HTTP `429` with code `RATE_LIMITED`.

## Recommended retry behavior

Use `Retry-After` when present. Avoid immediate repeated retries, and add a small amount of jitter if multiple workers share the same key.

A simple retry flow is:

1. Stop sending requests after a `429`.
2. Read `Retry-After`.
3. Wait at least that many seconds.
4. Retry once, then back off again if another `429` is returned.
